Changing the way I use LJ

I previously used LJ as a personal blog in 2000/2001 when I was doing my Masters in Software Development. It allowed me to have a break from my studies for five minutes make sense of my life and have a bit of fun with the internet. Also in those days no one I knew read it or even used LJ. When I restarted using LJ as a personal blog back in November of last year it was as an experiment. After two months I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to use LJ as a personal blog.

This is because on one hand I find giving a public blow by blow account of what I’m up to dull as ditchwater. Where I do want to talk about things that annoy/upset or confuse me I’d rather do it in a private journal I keep, which I can use for deeper introspection and reflection that I wouldn’t be happy doing here in public. Don’t get me wrong I am genuinely very happy with my life right now. I have a great bunch of mates, a very happy and strong marriage and a job that I only dreamed off years ago. However there I some areas which are tricky and convoluted at the moment (my relationship with my mother springs uncomfortably to mind) and I’d rather deal with in private. Rather than bore you all silly with a whiny stream of consciousness rant that slips out without me thinking it through.

I’ve also found that the snarky 15 year old in me has recently been coming out, in posts I have made here and occasionally comments I have made elsewhere. If I have offended you recently please accept my apologies. If I want to indulge this side of my character its much more fun have a couple of beers and post on the Bullboard over at PrimusSucks (keefybabe will know what I mean here). Not on my own or others LJ.

One thing however I have enjoyed about using LJ over the last couple of months is the fact that it has focused my creative energies. Mainly through reading others LJ where they mention their latest successes and failures. So I’ve decided that’s what I’m going to do with my LJ.

I’m going to use this space for my creative projects. At first this will be my web development which I’ve recently got back into in a big way. This Creative Journal will have a “show not tell” emphasis, and hopefully get me going on doing rather thank talking/thinking on a variety of things that I want to do. This way I can present something positive and hopefully of interest and use to people, rather than something dull, irrelevant and occasionally snide.
