Rats 0 Cat 2

Wayhey!! Our BBC does have a use apart from lounging round the house, whinging for food and throwing up hairballs.

He caught his second rat today, and proudly brought it before his screamming mum. I kept my composure this time and gave it a decent burial in a sainsbury’s bag deposited in the bin.

Maybe we should start calling him Rentokill

A quiet weekend

Had a lovely quiet weekend just gone. Apologies to anyone who I said that I would be out to play, but I was just shattered.
Its not a symptom that I’m getting old, I’ve always had a long history of trying to do much and then ending up drained. Recent history has been especially hectic. Even though home life has been calming down after the wedding, settling into this new job and the long communte has taken more out of me than I expected.

So from now on, its calm and steady all the way.

Apart from spending time with Rach, of which the Equestrian Camels where the highlight of the otherwise dull TV, I met up with Doug on Friday night for a few cheeky beers in the Favensham. The music was nicely funky and I tried a couple of nice new lagers. Also rang Cabbage to congratutlate him on handing in his PhD thesis (only taken him 5 years!!!)

On the work related front, only three days to go until I break up. I’m going to keep quiet and finish off a few things. Then if I have time I’ll playwith various bits and pieces on the website. The challenge is to get these things done, not merely mess about until School’s out.

Been bit of a fallow year for me personally in Rock/Metal. None of my major faves, Rollins, Devin Townsend, Queens of the Stone Age or Voivod have put out any recordings this year. In fact four most the bands on this top ten (1,2,4 & 8) where rooted out over the last couple of weeks in an effort to make the numbers up! I know I’m abit out of touch, but 2004 seems to have been the year of the “Best of Album”, Guns and Roses, Marilyn Manson, Korn… Anthrax even got in on the act by recording stuff off their first four albums !!

Saying that, Mastodon & Biffy Clyro were definate finds, with the added bonus that they are both touring in Feb 05. Well happy about that!

The toys go winding down

Things are definatly winding down here. People are becoming less and less communicative, meetings are being weaseled out of and new deadlines are moving to that mythical place called “Sometime in the new year”.

I’m going to hide in my office until we finish on Wednesday finishing off odds n sods, and said as much to my boss who pretty much agrees.

Going to sneak off home early tonight. Just got word from Rach, that my box of Games from the MIB programme has just turned up. Joy!!

Last night’s Class

For a long time I’ve been fighting with myself to carry on with the Chinese health system that I’ve been doing on and off for the last 10 years.

Recently with me working in Manchester its been hanging by a thread. With a long day at work, long travelling times, getting home late all making squeezing in an exercise class hard. Add to that money being tight because Rachel is still as student (which is definatly going to be a critical issue next year).

However last night’s class was one of the most outstanding and motivating that I have ever been to. I can’t say too much about it, because I’m at an intermediate level and we’ve been asked not mention some of things that we were told and shown outside of the class, but it made sense of alot of things that I’ve been struggling with since I returned to it after a 3 year break. I’m now begining to see the point behind alot of things I was shown in the beginineers class on Thursday nights, from which I recently moved up from, that I used to do as they told me but felt where a bit pointless. Plus physically and mentally today I feel great!!! Which with grey skys outside and people winding down at work thats an achivement in itself!

Now doubt is definatly cast from my mind. Time to budget sensibly and get down to practicing at home.

Bring it on!

Boing!!!

After two days of feeling crap with cold I’m back on form. Also those two days coincided with crunch time at work, so now I’m feeling bright and bunny and with space to think.

Yippee for me!

Long day ahead with kung fu tonight, plus I’ve got my XMAS shopping to do. Time to relax pace myself and be happy 🙂

Mmmn Monday

Man I feel crap. Today is one huge trial. Posistivity vs “Oh please can we just give up and curl up on the floor”. Slowly and painfully I’m winning.

Had the big meeting with da boss about the school’s website, and that went much better than expected 🙂 Crawled back to my office (meeting was at the oxford road building, I’m at Piccadilly) and now fighting off the cold with a nice warm cup of tea (the first of many I suspect).

I’ve got one of those colds that is threatening to happen and has made my life a misery. It kicked in over the weekend. However I made the most of the time off work despite feeling crap.. Finally caught Aliens vs Predator, a worthy addition to the family, and the first three Band Of Brothers episodes (ep 1 a bit slow and boring, subsquent episodes whoaa!!).

Also messed about with the Half-life 2 map editor(Hammer) which was fun.

Messing about with Hammer

XMAS Shopping Recon

Just back from Lunch, which was meant to be XMAS shopping for Rach.
However with the mad crowds, I chose not to enter a panic driven frenzy and impluse buy. Nope it was merely a recon trip, where gifts were located and noted for later purchase should they prove unavailable on online (where I’ve done 90% of my shopping this year).
Still Manchester was awash with happless shoppers, and to add another touch of surreality some company has errected a giant screen in Piccadilly Gardens which booms out irrelavant advertising crap across the square.

One thing that surprised me this year is how easy they make it now. Its box sets and 2 for one offers galore. If you like tv series look heres the complete run in a box set. If your child likes this book, hey get a soft toy with it in a special pack! The worst one, which exceeds our Rach’s prediction when the first film came out on DVD was the Matrix special edition. All three films, plus the Animatrix, plus the making of for each, plus more odds and sods (10 dvd’s in all) along with a plastic bust of Neo!!! Gawd help us when they do the Lord of the Rings Uber Edition!!!
