Kung fu kickassness
Not exactly Wuxia, which is outlandish chinese swords and sorcery and my usual Hong Kong film genre of choice, but Kung Fu Hustle rocks! Well good, laugh out loud funny, with some good Kung-fu and mystism.
On a less thrilling note, watched House of Flying Daggers recently and thought NAH! I found it too obvious, on both the fight and plot fronts.
Tried to watch a Touch of Zen, but failed to make it thorough the plodding first hour, despite lush visuals, an excellent sword fight and the man with the biggest teeth in wuxia. Shame because it is critically acclaimed and apparently the inspiration behind Croutching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
And just if you are wondering here is the man with the biggest teeth in wuxia, hiding them;
The sky is falling and my mummy is coming
Aye at 4:30 this afternoon my Mother arrives in Leeds for a weekend of chucklesome fun. Well thats what I plan anyways. Things could always go ary though, since Castle Von Newport is a tad small and the lack of personal space is always an issue when we have visitors. However the weather looks as if it is holding up, which is good since the plan is tommorrow Leeds city centre and Sunday is historical York.
Right now….must tidy the house. You know what moms are like about dust.
The tide of snot is going in…
Hurrah my snotty cold is clearing up! HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH.
Was completely miserable yesterday because of it. Ok not completely miserable, downloaded and watched the penultimate episode of Rome (where Titus Pullo got into yet another kick ass fight!!) and a couple of games of Multilayer COD2, which is silky smooth in a WW2 FPS sort of way (and shites all over DOD Source).
Quickly nipped to B&Q to pick up a wooden pole for our “For Sale Sign” and then had great fun putting it up with Rach.
The day ended on a bit of a downer. Rach’s Grandma fell and fractured her leg, in the same way as Foz did in his infamous Skateboarding accident. No this for an 85 year is going to lead to all sorts of complications. We might be moving to Oldham sooner than anticipated, to house sit Rach’s parents house as they move into Rach’s Grandmas to give her full time support. Watch this space sports fans.
Matters of the body
Well I’m still with cold, and its got worse if anything else. So I’ve taken today off. I’m determined to be as productive as possible, while getting the right amount of rest. Which probably means doing stuff this morning, and having a nap this afternoon.
I’m getting a tad concerned that since the onset of Autumn, I’ve been hit repeatly by a series of stinky colds. It probably has something to do with giving up going to Kung Fu, which was getting unmanagebale due to the commute to and from Manchester (where I work) each day. This was my only form of exercise and a bloody good one at that!! When we’ve moved I’ll be able to get to an exercise class of some form. In the mean time its upto me to do what I can, eat sensibly, get enough sleep, keep up with my meditation and chi-kung.
From this sessions new theme tune….
“I said before, but I’ll say it again
We all believe what we want to believe
Don’t just question authority
QUESTION EVERYTHING!”
Things I have learnt today
1. Life is full of weasels, I may have to keep the weasels happy for now but they will choke on their own vomit eventually. I shall be not concerned.
2. Green tea is ace.
3. I can exceed my expectations quite easily, and remain calm. Just think of Indiana.
4. You can be a mousey bore on your mobile phone on the train, be verbally abusive to a fellow passenger when they reprimand you, but god will put loud Asian students in the seats behind you when you get to Huddersfield.
5. You can be racially abusive about the driver and other passengers, while discussing your shoplifting strategy with your junior apprentice and nobody will say owt cos your the “Psycho on the the Bus”.
6. (and this is important) Cat poo magically disappears if you apply hot water and bleach via a cloth.
Now who said life is dull?
All hail the gods of RAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!
When Corrosion of Conformity cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina (the band live in New Orleans) back in Oct I was sad but quietly resigned.
Well as they say all good things come to those who wait, they’ve rescheduled for the New year…and…..wait for it…they are co-headlining with

The weekend thus far
So far this weekend can be summed up by the following words;
Tired Was so wired and tired by the time I got home, delayed by being stuck behind a slow train from Huddersfield (grrr). Went to Boarders with Rach, bought zip, and then had a quick tea. Was grumpy then went to bed.
Productive Went to Morrisons, stocked up on provisions. While we were there stopped by the HSBC branch and sorted out our joint finances. Also got a mortgage certificate which shows that the HSBC will loan us a silly amount of money. All in all really set my mind at rest about money matters (which have been bothering me recently). Then came home and sorted out about a hundred records to give to keefybabe and finished off the “Song for Keef” project (see cut below for results).
Party keefybabe was five yesterday so I and a bunch of other peeps went round his gaff for a parteeeee. Been a while since I’ve been to one of these ‘hey lets cram everyone in a room” type affairs and I nearly passed out with the heat in the first hour or two. Had a great time and chatted to a bunch of people that I have previously known only from keefybabe’s friends list. Was a wuss and came home at 11, because I’m an early morning person these days, and the bedroom needs painting today.
Crap Finished off House of Flying Daggers, which I thought was a pile of tosh. Completely overdone bullocks! Also struggling my way through “A touch of Zen”, a martial arts film from the 70s, which although lovely filmed and very evocative is as slow as a turtle. One hour in and there’s been one, rather good, fight scene. Sticking with it (will watch rest later) since it has had positive reviews, e.g. this one at Kungfucinema.com. It could me however going off Martial Arts films, so I’m going to watch Enter the Dragon or Hard boiled later to test if this is the case.
Procrastinate Is what I am doing now. I’ve a bedroom to paint and a house to tidy…hum more COD2 I think 😀
Lonely Is what I’ll be tonight, since Rach is at work today and is going over to stay at her mums tonight. This shouldn’t bother me but after the “wayyhey I can do what I like” wears off after a couple of hours, it gets very creepy being in the house alone.
Positive thought for the day
Not that I’m feeling at all pessimistic or shaky, this just fell out of my “Complete book of pocket positives”
